Players set to ’embrace’ new challenge

THE matches continue to come thick and fast and they certainly aren’t getting any easier…

After Tuesday’s test at Glenavon was postponed, next up for Coleraine – weather permitting – is a trip to play Glentoran tomorrow afternoon.

It’s the first of several gruelling away matches in a row for the Bannsiders.

“It’s unprecedented and I certainly don’t ever recall five away games on the bounce,” admitted manager Oran Kearney, prior to our midweek postponement.

“But we have no control the way the fixtures have worked out with rearranged matches.

“It’s just another ‘new thing’ in this unusual season and we have to embrace it.”

Oran will take a check on his walking wounded before setting off for East Belfast.

“The games are beginning to take their toll on the players.

“A lot of guys – not just at our club – are suffering muscle injuries and in particular hamstrings.”

Normally Coleraine would face a Glentoran team backed by a large home support but yet again no fans are permitted.

“I think teams definitely miss the supporters and it’s not as intimidating going to certain grounds,” continued Oran.

“We’ve seen it across various leagues throughout Europe but I suppose it evens itself out when you’re the home team.

“Take Saturday against Portadown for example.

“At 1-0, or even at 1-1 and us attacking the Railway End, you feel our fans would have drawn in a second goal.”
