Special Victory

COLERAINE FC players ran the Specials close but came up just short in a real hard fought battle in the Lodge Hotel last night…

With the scores level, it went to a three man play-off with Oran Kearney selecting himself, Lyndon Kane and Stephen O`Donnell as the team to do battle.

Oran was up against formidable opponent in Clifford  Healy  and while the crowd cheered “Healy Healy”, the gaffer made a good account of himself until near the end of the frame when Clifford got down to the black and with ease potted a simple black to put the Specials one up.

Next up was Stephen O’Donnell up against Philip Haveron, and again, the Skip played well and eventually ran out the victor to level the proceedings.

This meant it was all down to Lyndon and local lad Conrad McFeely. Despite Lyndon only making one small mistake, Conrad pounced to take his chance and claim a 2-1 victory for the Specials.

A most enjoyable evening was had by the players and the challenge was thrown out for a rematch next year.
