World Cup Celebration Day

STUDENTS based at The Showgrounds put their thinking caps on to host a World Cup Celebration Event…

On Monday 21st November, students studying the BTEC Level 3 Extended National Diploma in Sport, based at The Showgrounds, put their classroom acquired knowledge into practice by delivering a fun and inclusive World Cup Celebration Event at Ballysally PS.

On the day, students designed and delivered 10 x 30 min fun football sessions to over 150 pupils ranging from Nursery to P7. Each session was designed by the students to be age specific, with students alternating coaching duties throughout the day. From bombs away to tails, shark island and bubble burst our students played their small part in helping to inspire the next generation of football fans and players.

Player Education Officer, Gary Devenney, who leads the BTEC program, commented; “Experiences like this are invaluable for our students, affording them the opportunity to transfer the knowledge gained in the classroom to a practical setting. It also helps to provide Students with the insight of what a Career in Sport might look like. I’d like to thank Ms E Plummer, from Ballysally PS for helping to organise the event and to Coleraine FC Youth Academy Director David Platt for providing additional equipment and support”
