COLERAINE midfielder Ben Doherty has been nominated for the Ulster Footballer Young Player of the Year award…

The former Derry City man was in excellent form for Glenavon during the first half of the season, before continuing to impress after making the switch to The Showgrounds in the January transfer window.

To date, Doherty has made 14 appearances for the Bannsiders, scoring three goals in the process.

Coleraine boss Rodney McAree believes that Doherty’s nomination for the award was ‘fully deserved’ as Ballymena United’s Kofi Balmer and Caolan Marron of Glenavon were also shortlisted.

“I think Ben’s nomination is fully deserved as he was impressive at Glenavon and has been a breath of fresh air since his move to Coleraine,” he said.

“He is a joy to work with and has really hit the ground running with us.

“Individual recognition is always nice and we all want to congratulate Ben on being shortlisted for such a prestigious award.”

The winner will be revealed on April 29 – best of luck, Ben!
