Barry Greene and David Platt beware. There’s a new commentator in town!

Injured Ben Doherty found himself in a new role as he joined the excellent Barry and David on commentary duties for Saturday’s live stream of our win over Crusaders.

Ben provided insightful and humourous punditry and the Showgrounds supporters tuning in certainly enjoyed it going by their reaction on social media.

“It was certainly a different match day experience for me,” Ben told me.

“I wasn’t really nervous. It was just like doing an ordinary interview.”

The idea came about after an approach by David Cavan.

“He asked me if it was something that would interest me. I ran it by Oran and he was happy enough.”

Much as Doherty enjoyed the occasion, he doesn’t intend making a habit of it.

“I have to see the consultant on Wednesday and I’m hoping he will give me a four to six week timescale to return.

“I already have a lot more movement in the arm so with a bit of luck I’ll be back before that.

“I’d be keen to do commentary again in the future but not too quickly because that would mean I’m out injured again!”
