Interview

Peaky Bannsiders

COLERAINE supporter Niall Quinn has been getting a different perspective of games so far this season…

It has been a case of a father and son dream team as Niall, accompanied by his son Oisín, provide a real sense of emotion before, during and after games in vlog videos that have been uploaded to YouTube.

Speaking to colerainefc.com, Niall explains that he wanted to create lifelong memories with his son that he can look back on in the years to come.

“The idea of the vlog came from wanting to create memories of Oisín and I on our journeys following the Bannsiders,” he said.

“I would have done a few pictures and videos of games pre-Covid but I wanted to create stories of our matchdays to look back on in the future.

“I then floated the idea on Twitter and got a good response including Michael Anderson who contacted me suggesting sharing it on Causeway Sportsmail.

“As far as the matchday experience goes I wanted it to be raw. What you see is the real deal, emotions, a father and sons bond, the craic, the Coleraine fans and some banter.

“I think the Irish League is perfect for families to have a day out and to enjoy everything it has to offer. We have certainly enjoyed it so far from singing in the car before games to going mad when Conor McKendry scored the equaliser last weekend.”

Irish League fans across the board have credited Niall for his videos and admits young Oisín enjoys watching his boyhood heroes…especially if sweets are involved!

“The reaction to the videos has been unreal,” he continued.

“Any ground we have went to, the home fans, some players and even directors have contacted me saying how much they have enjoyed the different perspective of the game.

“Gareth Clements has invited Oisín and I as guests of Larne the next time we are there which is a lovely gesture.

Oisín has been going to games with me since he was three-years-old. He loves it, though I think it’s just cause he gets to eat sweets for two hours.”

The Bannsiders return to The Showgrounds this Saturday in a blockbuster derby encounter against Ballymena United.

Niall insists he hopes he take in as much of the pre-match entertainment as possible before cheering on Oran Kearney’s men from the terracing.

“We are buzzing to get back home to The Showgrounds,” he stated.

“The vlog will be hitting the Social Club to sample Triggers’ tunes on Saturday before kick-off.

“The plan is to soak up the pre-match atmosphere and hopefully see the lads deliver on the field with all three points.”
