Mitchell feels he’s on the right road

ANDY Mitchell is hoping that a sore eye won’t deter his plans to start this evening’s Sports Direct Premiership clash against Carrick Rangers…

The big striker suffered a gash to his right eye after colliding with a Loughgall player in last Friday’s 2-1 win at Lakeview Park.

Mitchell’s first half strike would ultimately prove to be the match winner and he remarked how much the goal meant to him after a frustrating time with injuries and other health scares during his time at The Showgrounds.

He said: “It was really good build-up play between Davy and Andy.

“Andy was able to slip the ball down the side and it’s just something I’ve done a long time by taking a touch and rolling the ball across the goalkeeper.

“I probably didn’t think I’d get the chance to do that again and I’m just so thankful I’ve had that chance and it meant an awful lot to me.

“Last week was just a wee taster.

“Unfortunately, Shevy wasn’t fit on Friday night and I got my chance.

“I have to keep taking my chances and scoring the goals the best as I can.

“I’m feeling good.

“It’s been a long road but I never stopped believing that I’d get back.

“It’s about maintaining that now, keeping going and not giving up.”

The 29-year-old admits he has been impressed with the recruitment made by Carrick Rangers chief Stuart King during the summer transfer window

“I’ll get it stitched up and everything is going to be alright,” he added.

“Carrick is going to be a tough game on Tuesday.

“If we thought Friday night was tough then Tuesday is going to be tough too.

“They are a strong, physical side who recruited well over the summer.

“We’ve got to be on our best game on Tuesday.”
