Coleraine complete the loan signing of Scot Whiteside

Whiteside agrees loan switch

COLERAINE FC is delighted to announce the short-term loan signing of Derry City defender Scot Whiteside pending international clearance…

The 20-year-old – who has appeared in several friendlies for the Bannsiders – has agreed a switch at The Showgrounds until January 2018.

The former Glasgow Rangers trainee is able to play at centre-half or right-back and becomes the sixth summer arrival at the club following the signings of Aaron Traynor, Stephen O’Donnell, Matthew Kirk, Josh Carson and Joe McCready.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney believes Whiteside ‘ticks all the boxes’ after securing his signature.

“We are delighted to finally get Scot on board,” Kearney said.

“He is a local lad and ticks all the boxes.

“He can play as a centre-half, but we ideally see him as a right-back.

“We are just waiting on international clearance but we are looking forward to working with him.”

The Northern Ireland youth international admits he is happy to sign for the club he supported as a boy.

“I am delighted to sign for Coleraine as I have grew up watching them since I was no age,” Whiteside told colerainefc.com

“I can’t wait to get started and get some minutes on the pitch.

“I know there is strong competition for places here but it’s up me to get the starting jersey.”

The club can confirm that Whiteside will wear the number 23 shirt next season.
